Matrix MKTG Wins 2023 Muse Award for Backwoods Experience

Atlanta, GA, April 27, 2023 – Matrix MKTG, an Atlanta-based integrated marketing agency, has received another 2023 MUSE Creative Awards Gold for Experiential & Immersive for creating the Backwoods Superstore.

Established by the International Awards Associate (IAA) in 2015, the Muse Creative Awards is a prestigious, global competition celebrating those who inspire with captivating concepts, ideas, and designs. This year’s judges, a panel of world-class creatives, included Cutwater Founder/CCO Chuck McBride and IAL Saatchi & Saatchi Creative Director Fizza Shah. Collectively the panel reviewed 6,300 entries from across the globe to honor creative and design professionals in 2023’s first competitive season.

Matrix MKTG was tasked with developing and designing an impactful activation footprint for one of the most exciting festivals in the United States, Rolling Loud California 2023, for Backwoods. As a long-time client and partner, it was important that Backwoods came to life in a way that demonstrated the lifestyle identity of the brand; and how it resonates with consumers every day in a memorable space on this national stage. The activation footprint quickly became the focal point and destination for artists and celebrities inside the artist compound.

The goal was to create an experience that would connect to Los Angeles on a hyper-local level by building a space that truly resonated with musical artists, their guests, and the media. Since Backwoods has a great relationship with its consumers, the footprint needed to be a large, visually appealing activation space with memorable and shareable elements. As a nod to the local culture, we created the Backwoods Super Store inspired by the Slauson Super Mall, commonly known as the Slauson Swap Meet.

Ryan J. Walker, Matrix MKTG’s President and Chief Strategist, crafted the concept that became the Backwoods Super Store. The creative team led by Tijuana Harvey, Matrix MKTG’s Sr. Creative Producer, developed the visual look and created the graphic assets as well as the overall layout and elements of the space.
